My fabric scrap bin is overflowing after every project

I was sorting through my design space and saw how much leftover material piles up from cutting out patterns. It hit me that this waste adds up fast and isn't great for the planet. What are some clever design ideas to reuse these scraps in new pieces?

Turn scraps into accents. That overflowing bin you mentioned is perfect for small, useful things. I save my bits for patchwork quilt blocks, or even just to test new stitches on my machine. You can make colorful bias tape for garment edges, or piece together a fun tote bag lining. Smaller scraps get turned into stuffing for pincushions or dog toys. It really cuts down on waste and sometimes those scrap projects turn out the best.

@matthews21, you're putting fabric scraps in dog toys? That seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen if the dog eats any of it. My neighbor's dog once chewed up a pillow and needed surgery. I stick to using scraps for things that won't end up in someone's stomach. Patchwork quilts are safer, even if they take forever to finish. Your bias tape idea sounds more up my alley, though.

Tried using denim scraps to patch up my favorite jeans last year. Ended up with this crazy mosaic on one knee, all different shades of blue. My mom saw it and said it looked like a map of the ocean, which was kinda cool. But then the patches started fraying after a few washes, and now it's more of a deconstructed art piece. Still wear them though, adds character. Makes me wonder if some projects are just meant to fall apart beautifully.
