Remember when laying out a fence meant hours with stakes and string?
I was thinking about how fence layout has changed over the years. When I started, we used simple stakes and string, spending hours making sure everything was level and straight. We'd use a bubble level and our own eyes, which meant sometimes we had to redo sections. Now, with digital tools and lasers, the work is done in a fraction of the time. It's great for speed, but I wonder if we've lost some of the hands-on knowledge. I recall a project where the string kept sagging, and we had to adjust it in the rain. Those challenges taught me a lot about patience and precision. What's your take on the shift to high-tech tools?

Agree with lee72 about losing the problem-solving skills. I still keep a string line in my truck for quick checks because lasers can lie if the battery's low. What do you do when the tech acts up?

The new tools just get it right the first time.

New tech often works right away, and you see this pattern in daily life. Older tools needed lots of fixes and tweaks. Does this make us less willing to figure things out?
