Went back to a house in Omaha I did 10 years ago and the carpet still looked decent

The homeowner said they only vacuumed once a month and never had it professionally cleaned, which made me wonder if my installation was that good or if people just have lower standards than they used to.

Honestly "only vacuumed once a month" is pretty wild, but maybe people really just don't stress about carpet like they used to. I bet a lot of folks just accept that it's gonna look lived in after a decade.

You know what, I used to be the opposite. I thought carpet had to be spotless all the time or it was gross. But seeing people talk about relaxing that standard and just letting it get a little dusty really made me rethink things. Once a month feels totally doable now, especially with kids or pets running around. It's just a floor, it's going to get messy no matter what. I'd rather spend that time with my family than worrying about every speck of dirt in the carpet.

@anna_fox7 I gotta ask you, once a month is doable for some, but how often do people really need to vacuum if they don't have pets or kids? Is there a middle ground where it still feels clean but you aren't killing yourself over it every week? I feel like a lot of people just guess and hope for the best. Seems like it depends on how much traffic the room gets more than anything.
