I finally tried a $15 avocado toast in Portland and it made me realize something
The whole thing was just okay, but the price tag made me see how overhyped simple foods can get when they're trendy. Now I just make my own at home for a fraction of the cost. Does anyone else think avocado toast gets way more praise than it actually deserves?

You're paying for the whole experience, not just the food. A good cafe has great atmosphere and someone else does the work. That's worth a splurge sometimes.

Disagree, the coffee at home is just as good for a fraction of the price.

My favorite trick is to buy the avocados a few days early so they're perfectly ripe when I want them. A little squeeze of lemon juice on the toast before the avocado stops it from getting soggy. I use everything bagel seasoning from the grocery store, it's like two bucks and lasts forever. The whole thing takes five minutes and costs maybe two dollars.
