Remember when 'fruit punch' meant actual fruit?
I grabbed a bottle of Sunny Day Fruit Punch at the store last week, thinking it would be like the stuff my mom made. The front label had pictures of oranges and strawberries, but the ingredients list showed it was just water, high fructose corn syrup, and red 40. Not a single drop of real juice. It tasted like sweetened water with food coloring. What other drinks are hiding behind pictures of fruit?

Actual fruit" punch was always mostly sugar too... just homemade sugar.

Honestly, that Sunny Day stuff sounds perfect for a kids' party where you just want something cheap and sweet that won't stain. Riverthompson has a point about the sugar, so it's not like the old way was some health drink either. Those bright pictures on the label are just marketing to catch your eye, and everyone knows you check the back for the real info. Sometimes you just want a simple, consistent flavor that doesn't cost a lot, and these drinks deliver exactly that. It's not trying to be fresh squeezed juice, it's its own thing.
