Shoutout to everyone acting like air frying changed their life
I jumped on the air fryer train last year after seeing all the hype online. It does make decent fries, but my regular oven can do the same thing with a baking sheet. Folks act like it's some kitchen miracle, but it's basically a tiny fan oven. I tried cooking chicken in it three times, and each batch was drier than the last. Now it just takes up space on my counter while I stick to my old pans. The whole trend feels blown out of proportion for what is really just another appliance.

Ugh, same thing happened to me, @anna_stone45. Mine was a doorstop until I tried frozen stuff straight from the freezer, no thawing. Threw in some potato wedges with a light spray of oil and basic salt, way better than my oven. Still just a small oven, but at least it's getting used now.

Oh man, I felt this. What is it about the air fryer that makes people talk about it like it's a religious experience, when it really is just a small oven with a fan? Was it all just social media doing its thing, or did we all just want to believe in a magic box for crispy food?

Right, but it's the speed that gets me. My regular oven takes forever to preheat. The air fryer is hot in like, three minutes. So when I want a single serving of something fast, like reheating pizza or making a handful of fries, it feels like a cheat code. @kelly.grace is onto something with the frozen stuff, it just works without thinking. We called it magic because it gave us instant crispy food without the wait, which honestly felt pretty magical compared to the big cold box.
