Just dropped $400 on a new respirator system and it's a total game changer

I was using those cheap disposable masks for years, coughing up gray dust after every shift. My wife finally made me get a proper PAPR unit last month. The first day I wore it, I could actually breathe easy while pouring iron. No more fogged up safety glasses, no more grit in my throat. Who else has switched and what brand did you go with?

You're right that a half mask with good seals is a solid choice for a lot of jobs. That whole "overkill" feeling is real, especially when you're trying to keep costs down. I get why a full PAPR setup seems like a lot for grinding work. If your seal is good and you're not breathing junk, you found what works for you. That's the whole point.

Honestly, is a full PAPR system always the right move? I switched to a good half mask with P100 filters for way less money. It seals great for my work grinding welds, and the filters last me a whole month before I swap them. The PAPR just seemed like overkill for my shop.

Feel you on the half mask setup, it does the job for plenty of folks. But man, that first shift with a PAPR is something else, especially when you're used to spitting up gray stuff at the end of the day. I remember pulling my old respirator off after a dusty job and just coughing for ten minutes straight, felt like my lungs were full of gravel. My wife saw me one time and gave me that look, you know the one, so I finally bit the bullet too. No regrets though, being able to breathe clean air all day makes a huge difference in how you feel after work.
