Sat in a coffee shop in Denver yesterday and overheard two guys bragging about how they never pay their freelance designers on time.

My old roommate in Austin was a freelance photographer, and he had this one client who was always "check's in the mail" for like six weeks. He finally had to start taking half up front, which felt awkward but worked. It's wild how some people just treat that like a normal business move.

Tbh that's the thing nobody talks about - the whole "awkward" part of asking for money up front. @riverreed probably knows this too, but once you get burned a couple times it's not even awkward anymore, just smart business.
