Appreciation post: Found my film camera love through dusty review blogs
I got into film photography after reading long, text-heavy reviews on early 2000s websites. These days, I just watch quick video clips to see how a camera handles. It's cool how reviews went from lots of words to mostly moving pictures. For my quiet street photo walks, I still trust those old posts that talked about lens feel and manual controls.

My friend Liam bought a Minolta X-700 based on a glowing video review last month. The video made it look perfect, but he said the film advance lever felt gritty in a way you'd never SEE on screen. He finally found a long forum post from 2003 that described that exact worn-gear feeling, which saved him a huge repair bill.

Seriously, videos show the physical handling way better than any old text blog could.

I mean yeah videos are good for seeing something move, but saying they're just better feels off. Sometimes a written review actually explains the weight and feel in a way a quick clip can't, like how the grip wears over time or little details you'd miss. Maybe it's just me but I get way more from a well written paragraph where I can picture it myself than some influencer rushing through a demo. Text lets you go back and really sit with the details instead of just watching someone's hands for three seconds.
