My dad tried to fix my phone by putting it in rice for 3 days straight

I was visiting my parents in Phoenix last week and my phone got wet, so my dad insisted on his 'old school' method of sealing it in a bag of rice. It didn't work at all and just left starch dust in the charging port. Do younger people just accept that some tech is disposable now, while older folks always try to fix it?

Did you try cleaning the port with some isopropyl alcohol? I mean, the rice thing is basically a myth that makes a mess.

But what about the alcohol itself? Is there a risk of it getting under components and causing issues if you use too much, or is it pretty safe as long as you're just dabbing the port? I've always been a bit nervous about that part.

My old Galaxy S9 took a swim in a pool and my uncle did the same thing. The rice just made a gritty paste inside. Grab a can of compressed air from any office store, blast the port out, then use a q-tip with a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol. Let it dry completely before you plug anything in. That usually gets it working unless the water actually fried the board.
