Installing my own storm windows showed me the hidden energy drain

I put up storm windows on my house to stop drafts last winter. My heating bills went down by a third. It made me see how much heat we lose through bad glass. Now I tell every customer about proper sealing and extra panes. For example, a school we worked on saved thousands after we upgraded their windows. Less energy use means fewer power plants running. This job is more than just fitting glass, it's about building smarter.

You said "bad glass" but often it's the old frames causing most of the drafts, not the pane itself. The seal fails and lets air leak in around the edges. Good sealing on any window is what really locks in the heat.

Honestly you're totally right about the frames being the real issue. Tbh my own windows are probably a great example of that. Pretty sure I've got one where the seal is just completely gone. Been meaning to fix it for like two years but just keep piling blankets on the couch instead. My DIY skills are basically non-existent, so it's a losing battle. At this point the draft is basically part of the room's charm.

Wait, you've just been putting up with that draft for two whole years? That's wild! My teeth would be chattering nonstop. It's crazy how we get used to stuff like that when a simple fix could make such a big difference.
