My bus ride changed my mind about bulky shopping on public transit

I always hear complaints about passengers bringing large reusable bags on the bus. Just yesterday, I watched someone handle three stuffed cloth totes through the aisle, and folks were clearly irritated. But if we want people to choose transit over cars for errands, we have to accept that sometimes bags will take up space. It's a small price to pay for cutting down on emissions, right?

Those bags turn the aisle into an obstacle course during rush hour. It isn't just about space, it's a real safety problem when people can't move or get to the exits. Expecting everyone to just deal with that during a busy commute seems pretty unfair. Doesn't there need to be some common sense limit so transit works for everyone?

Ever notice how airlines charge for carry-ons now?

But @the_nathan has a point about safety... still, people gotta buy food sometimes, you know?
