Vent: That guy who said AI art would replace real artists by 2024 was way off
This dude I follow on Twitter kept posting that AI would make human artists obsolete within two years. That was back in 2022. Now it's 2025 and I see more digital artists selling commissions than ever. Local art show last weekend had 40+ booths all human-made work. AI stuff just sits in these soulless galleries online. Anyone else notice the hype died down a lot?

Man that's rough, I remember seeing those same predictions floating around and it just never panned out the way people thought it would. The whole "AI replaces artists" thing felt like it was mostly pushed by tech bros who don't actually understand what makes art meaningful to people. I still see way more demand for human-made stuff at local shows and online commissions than any AI generated pieces, probably because people connect with the story and effort behind real work. The hype definitely died down once everyone realized AI can't replicate that human touch or the emotional weight that comes from someone pouring time into their craft. Good on you for supporting real artists, that's what keeps the community alive.

Is it just me or do I still sometimes accidentally type "AI" when I'm searching for my own old drawings? The hype definitely collapsed though. My cousin bought one of those AI art subscription things last year and he's already back to tracing his favorite anime characters by hand because the AI stuff all looks like melted crayons with too many fingers. I tried using it once to make a profile picture and it gave me a dog with four different colored eyes and a tail growing out of its forehead. Meanwhile I spent three hours the other night shading a single tree trunk and feeling proud of it.
