Local library's AI ethics night gave me hope for our future

Last week, our local library hosted a night to talk about AI ethics. I thought only a few tech folks would come, but the room was packed! We talked about how automation might change jobs in our town. A teacher said she worries about bots grading essays without understanding context. A store owner shared how self-checkout machines sometimes make errors. We decided to start a group to learn more and speak up when new tech is proposed. It felt like a big win for our community's voice. I left feeling really positive about tackling these tough questions together.

Focus on who gets to monitor the algorithms after they're deployed. That community group should push for a public oversight role, like reviewing the grocery store's self-checkout error logs.

Why rush innovation if it hurts folks?

Public oversight role? That just STIFLES innovation with red tape.
