Switched to that new non-chlorinated brake cleaner on a Cessna 172's landing gear, and it left a weird white film.

Turns out it reacted with some old grease the standard stuff would've just cut through. Anyone have a go-to cleaner for grimy, mixed-contamination jobs?

Check what the old grease was made of first. That white film sounds like a chemical reaction, maybe a soap or salt forming. Did you try wiping it down with isopropyl alcohol to see if it dissolves? Sometimes you need a two-step process, one for the grease and a different one for the residue.

Airplane soap is a new one. @jadew63 might be onto something with that name. Try a degreaser meant for mixed gunk, then hit it with some isopropyl like julia_lee said. That film is probably just the new cleaner turning the old grease into a weird paste.
