My main panel took a lightning hit last Thursday
I was finishing up a residential install near Springfield when a storm rolled in fast. The main panel on a DSC system got fried through the phone line - never seen that happen before. Anyone know a good surge protector that actually works for the phone line input?

Huh, that's rough but honestly panels take surges all the time without completely dying. I'd check if the phone line was properly grounded first before buying anything. A basic in-line surge protector from the hardware store is probably fine for most setups.

Yeah but @iris574 how do you even know the phone line ground was done right on a fast install? I've seen guys skip the protector on the telco side cause they think its not needed. Was your ground rod actually bonded to the main panel ground or just tied into some random copper pipe?
