My old boss in Phoenix always said to double-check the panel's ground before leaving. I didn't listen on a job yesterday.

It was a simple swap to a new keypad at a small office. Everything tested fine, so I packed up. Got a call this morning that the whole system was dead. Drove back, and sure enough, the ground wire had come loose from the terminal block. Took me 45 minutes to fix and cost me the morning. He was right. How do you guys make sure your grounds are solid? I'm thinking of adding a drop of locktite to the screw.

Actually saw a guy use a tiny bit of nail polish on the threads once. Works like a locktite but you can still see the wire color under it.

Yeah, locktite on a ground wire does sound odd at first. I read a forum post where someone swore by a dab of clear nail polish instead, kind of like what @the_oscar mentioned. It holds the screw but doesn't hide the wire, so you avoid that extra troubleshooting step later.

Locktite on a ground wire? That's a new one.
