Dropped $85 on a hand crank radio two winters back, and when the ice storm hit in Springfield I was the only one on my block who knew what was going on

A buddy of mine in Joplin said the same thing after their ice storm, he had a cheap $30 one and it still pulled in the AM stations when the power was out for four days. Those things are worth every penny when cell towers die.

Same here, @joseph_adams66, kept a little battery one in my kitchen drawer for years and it saved us during that big outage two winters back. We got nothing on the phone but the AM news station came in clear as day, so we knew which roads were closed and when the crews were coming. My kids thought I was nuts for hanging onto it until that night. Best 25 bucks I ever spent, honestly.
