Solar vs hand crank radio, the solar one let me down twice
I tested both setups during a 3 day blackout near Spokane last month. My $40 hand crank radio kept going no matter what, even at 2am when I was dead tired. The $180 solar unit needed direct sun for like 6 hours to charge a phone, and the battery drained overnight in the cold. I kept the solar panel for backup but the crank is my main now. Anyone else ditch the fancy tech after a real test run, or am I just too impatient with charging times?
Reminds me of my old truck that had a busted alternator. I kept jumper cables and a jump box in the back and just dealt with it for months instead of fixing the real problem. Sometimes the clunky cheap fix just works better than the fancy one you paid too much for.
