That blackout in Topeka changed how I look at water storage

Last summer during a storm the power went out for almost three days straight. I had about 20 gallons of water put away but my family of four burned through it in less than a day and a half. Filling up the bathtub after it was too late is not a fun lesson to learn. Now I keep 55 gallon drums in my garage and rotate them every 6 months. Anyone else ever run out way faster than they expected?

Maybe it's just me but 55 gallons is overkill for most emergencies. You can get by with way less if you actually plan your usage instead of stockpiling gallons you'll end up dumping in 6 months.

Man I feel this so hard... I thought my little stash would last way longer but with a family it disappears in no time flat. Had to learn that same lesson after a three day outage here in Oklahoma.
