That job in a crawlspace near Austin changed how I pack my tools

Last month I had a dryer repair over in Round Rock, the vent was completely clogged and the thing was stuffed under a house with maybe 18 inches of clearance. I brought my usual big bag and it took me 10 minutes just to wiggle in and get my gear sorted. Now I carry a small pouch with just the basics, screwdriver, multimeter, and a few bits, and leave the rest in the truck. Anyone else find themselves ditching the heavy tool bag after a tight spot?

And that canvas roll idea is smart, I switched to one of those after a similar mess in an attic near Cedar Park. I keep a small multi-bit screwdriver, a headlamp, and a magnetic parts tray in mine now, it saves so much time not digging through a big bag. The headlamp was the real game changer for me, lets me keep both hands free even in the tight spots without worrying about where the flashlight went.

Man that Round Rock crawlspace sounds like a nightmare, I had almost the exact same thing happen in a house off South Lamar. I took my full tool roll thinking I was ready, ended up scraping my knuckles and cussing for twenty minutes trying to get a pipe wrench and a set of channel locks turned around in a tight crawlspace. Now I keep a little canvas roll with a 6-in-1 screwdriver, a small crescent wrench, and a flashlight, everything else stays in the truck bed until I actually need it. It's crazy how one tight job can totally change how you prep for the next one.

@the_oscar yeah the knuckle scraping is what gets you.
