Client told me my pruning cuts looked like a beaver had been at them

An old landscaper showed me how to make cleaner collar cuts after I left jagged stubs on a maple tree, and now I always carry a sharp folding saw to avoid that messing up the bark, has anyone else had to fix their cutting habits after some blunt feedback?

Kind of sounds like your client was being a drama queen. In my experience most homeowners couldn't tell a proper cut from a hack job if it hit them in the face. Unless the tree is right outside their window and they're staring at it every day, odds are they just wanted something to complain about. I've seen trees heal over cuts that weren't textbook perfect just fine with time. Maybe take it seriously if you're leaving actual stubs that could rot back into the trunk. But a beaver comment? That's just someone who watches too much YouTube landscaping content.

Ever try anvil pruners for those tight spots where a saw won't fit?

Took me three hack jobs on a single oak before I finally bought a proper pruning saw and learned the right angle.
