Hot take: That Roman coin I bought last month was a total fake.

I got it from a dealer at a local show in Denver, paid $80 for what I thought was a sweet denarius of Trajan. Got home and started comparing it to a real one in a reference book, and the lettering was all off. Weighed it on my kitchen scale and it was way too light. I emailed the dealer but he ghosted me. Has anyone else run into fakes at these smaller shows?

Got burned on a fake silver bracelet at a flea market once, felt just as stupid.

Used to roll my eyes at people getting scammed like that, thought it was just carelessness. Then I bought a "vintage" silver ring from some Etsy seller, paid good money for it too. Turned out to be just plated and flaked off after a month, felt like a complete fool. Taught me real quick that even careful people can get taken if they let their guard down.

Ngl @craig.sage, I still think most scams come down to people ignoring obvious red flags though.
