How I used to hand-write all my to-do lists on sticky notes vs. now using a whiteboard wall at home
For like 10 years I would cover my desk in little yellow sticky notes. Each one had one task. By the end of the day I'd have like 20 of them layered on top of each other. Then last spring I was in a client's home in Austin and saw they had a whole wall painted with whiteboard paint. Just a big rectangle of white on their kitchen wall. I asked about it and the guy said it saved his marriage because his wife stopped leaving him little reminder notes everywhere. So I went home, bought a sheet of whiteboard panel from Home Depot for like 30 bucks, and screwed it into my office wall. Now I write the whole day's list in one place. No more losing sticky notes between my keyboard and water bottle. Has anyone else switched to a whiteboard wall or big board and found it actually helped?

Did you paint over an existing wall or screw in a separate board?

Guessing this is a separate board @grant_hart - feels like everything in home improvement these days is just another layer on top of something else, never actually fixing the root.

In a forum post last week someone mentioned that separate boards are actually better for soundproofing since they don't transfer vibrations the same way a painted wall does. Your mileage may vary of course but it stuck with me because they said you can swap them out easier if you mess up the paint job. A separate board also gives you room to add insulation behind it if you're trying to block noise.
