My road trip pit stop became a minor avionics victory
Was fueling up at a small airfield in the desert. Their nav system had a weird hum. Checked the grounding, found it was loose. Tightened it up, noise gone. The crew there shared some great tips over a cold drink.

My big clumsy hands would have probably made it worse, like when iris574 rattled their whole dash. Last time I tried to fix a hum with just a pair of pliers, I almost turned a simple ground into a full rewire. Some people just have the touch for it, I guess.

That desert heat does weird things to tech, I swear. Last time I tried to fix a hum in my car stereo I just made the whole dash rattle. Solid work finding the actual grounding issue, I'd have probably just turned the radio up louder.

Turning the radio up louder is a perfectly valid fix, iris574. Sometimes you just need a workaround, not a full repair. Milest27, your hands are probably fine, you just need the right day for it.
