Found a trick that saved my awkward dinner date last night

I was at a loud restaurant and we kept having those painful silences. So I asked her what her top 3 favorite snacks were and she talked for 10 minutes straight. Has anyone else tried a simple question like that to fix an awkward pause?

Had a buddy who used the same trick on a first date at a quiet coffee shop. He asked her what her weirdest pet peeve was and she ended up ranting about people who chew with their mouth open for like fifteen minutes straight. It really did break the ice and they've been together for two years now.

Man that is SUCH a good trick! I had a first date once where things were going kinda quiet so I asked her what's the most useless skill she has and she immediately launched into a whole thing about being able to wiggle her ears and make it sound like a horse. She did the impression and everything. We laughed for like ten minutes straight. Random questions like that just cut through all the awkward small talk nonsense.

Nah that's actually hilarious. A buddy of mine tried something similar on a blind date. He asked her what food she could eat for the rest of her life and she deadass said "cold pizza and hot sauce" without missing a beat. They're still together three years later. Sometimes the random questions work way better than the usual boring stuff.
