That time my date spent 20 minutes explaining his bike chain to me

So I went on a coffee date with this guy from Hinge about 3 months ago at a Starbucks downtown. He seemed cool in messages but as soon as we sat down he whipped out his phone and started showing me photos of his bike chain from different angles. Not his actual bike, just close ups of the chain links and sprockets. He went into this whole thing about grease grades and how he had to replace a link after a ride in the rain. I sat there nodding and sipping my latte for like 20 straight minutes without getting a word in. Eventually I just said "hey, I gotta run" and he looked genuinely confused. Has anyone else dealt with a date who just wouldn't drop one weird topic?

Whiped out his phone and started showing me photos of his bike chain from different angles" - that part made me laugh out loud. I saw a TikTok once about a girl whose date spent an hour explaining the difference between organic and non-organic eggs. Like, where do these guys get the idea that this is the move? It's almost like they think showing expertise on something random is the same as being interesting. 20 minutes though. You're a saint for lasting that long. I would've been gone after five. At least now you know what to look for - a guy who talks about bike chains before the second sip of coffee is not the one.

I had a guy once try to impress me by naming every tool in my own toolbox backwards.

Right? I once spent twenty minutes trying to explain why my favorite type of cheese was objectively better than all others... pretty sure he just thought I was weird and not charming at all. At least bike chain guy had photos, I just had a very strong opinion about cheddar.
