Just realized I was going about guest posts all wrong after a chat with my friend

Honestly, I was talking to my friend who runs a local hiking blog in Asheville last week. She said, 'I only link to gear reviews from people who actually own the stuff, not just anyone who asks.' Tbh, it hit different because I'd been blasting out generic pitches for months. It made me stop and actually read the blogs I want a link from first. Has anyone else shifted their approach like that after a simple conversation?

Ever think about how many bloggers get pitched by people who clearly never read their site? That's what makes your friend's rule so smart, it instantly filters out the lazy requests. Makes the real fans stand out.

Yeah, and it's not just about lazy pitches. @lindab49, sometimes they DO read the site but still get it totally wrong. Like they see a recipe blog and pitch a car insurance ad because you mentioned driving to the store once. Or they read a parenting post and offer a guest article on stock trading. It shows they only scanned for keywords, they didn't actually get the vibe or the audience at all. That's almost worse than not reading.

Honestly my friend got a pitch for cat food on her dog training blog, they clearly just saw the word "pet" and went for it.
