My best backlink month came after I stopped caring about domain authority

I spent June ignoring all the usual metrics and just emailed 30 small bloggers I actually read, got 12 links from personal stories they wrote about my site, and that single month outranked my entire year of chasing high DA sites.

You're basically saying luck is a better strategy than anything else. That 12 out of 30 hit rate is not normal, most people getting 12 links from cold emailing small bloggers in one month is a statistical anomaly. And personal stories about your site from random blogs? Google doesn't care about one-off sentimental posts, they care about consistent topical authority signals from established sites. Your single month spike could be a fluke that drops off next update when Google realizes those links are just feel-good anecdotes, not real editorial endorsements. Focusing purely on low DA blogs is how you build a backlink profile that looks like a spammy neighborhood, not a reliable long term strategy.

Tried something similar with local mom blogs and got 8 solid links in a month, lasted over a year after that.
