Spent 6 months building links with guest posts before a guy on Fiverr told me my anchors were all wrong
I was so proud of myself for getting 47 guest posts published on real blogs in about half a year. Felt like I cracked the code. Then last Tuesday I paid a guy $40 on Fiverr just to look at my backlink profile and give me a quick report. He sent back a screenshot with a note saying almost every single anchor text was either my brand name or "click here." I sat there staring at it for like ten minutes because he was right. I never once thought about varying my anchors or using partial match keywords. All that outreach, all those emails, and Google probably had no clue what any of those links were supposed to be about. Has anyone else messed this up early on, and how did you fix your anchor mix without tanking the links you already built?
Laughed way too hard at this because I did the exact same thing but worse. Mine were all "read more" and my own name, and I was so proud of my 30 guest posts until someone pointed out it looked like I was just collecting links to my about page. What fixed it for me was going back to the blogs that let me edit the post and swapping a few brand anchors for stuff like "email marketing tips" or "how to write cold emails" where it actually made sense in the sentence. For the ones I couldn't edit, I just left them and started building new links with a mix of branded, naked URLs, and partial match phrases. Took a few months but the profile balanced out and nothing tanked. You already did the hard part with the outreach, the anchors are a pretty quick fix.
