Unpopular opinion: I had a client in Austin who said backlinks were a total waste of time.
We were in a coffee shop on South Congress, and he flat out told me he'd rather spend his whole $5k monthly budget on social ads instead. He said links were just for old school SEO guys who didn't get modern marketing. Has anyone else had a client who just refused to see the value in link building at all?
