My ex got me a broken treadmill for my birthday last year
She bought it used off Craigslist for $50 and said I needed to get in shape. The thing wouldn't even power on, just sat in my garage for 8 months until I hauled it to the dump. Has anyone else gotten a gift that was basically a chore to get rid of?

Wait, did she actually hand it to you in the driveway like it was some kind of romantic gesture, or did she just kind of leave it there and tell you to figure it out? I'm trying to picture the moment she gave it to you, was it wrapped up or just sitting there with a bow on it all broken and sad? It's one thing to get a crappy gift, but a broken one that you have to haul off yourself feels like a whole different level of disrespect. Did she ever bring it up again after you had to dump it, or did she act like it never happened?

Honest to god, I just read something the other day about how people give broken stuff as a way to get out of real effort, like they dump it on you so YOU have to deal with the mess. Exactly what you said about a different level of disrespect. She literally just left it by the mailbox with a bent-up bow still stuck to it, didn't even bother to wrap it or anything. Never once mentioned it again after I tossed it, acted like it was no big deal. Pretty sure she just found it in her garage and figured I'd be grateful, lol.

@alice336 nailed it, that's exactly the thing - she just left it there by the mailbox like I was supposed to be thrilled, never said a word about it again. People really do just hand off their junk and act like they're doing you a favor.
