I used to defend the 2016 Ghostbusters remake until I watched it with my dad

Honestly, we were just hanging out in his den in Omaha last weekend and he put it on. The scene where they're fighting the big ghost in Times Square felt so forced, like they were just throwing CGI at the screen for ten minutes straight. My dad just looked at me and said, 'This feels like a sketch that went on too long.' Ngl, that one line made me see the whole movie as a missed joke. Has anyone else had a viewing experience that completely flipped their opinion on a remake?

Funny you mention that, because I totally defended the live action Lion King remake for way too long. Thought the visuals were cool at first. Then my friend made me watch the "Hakuna Matata" scene side by side with the original cartoon. The new version just felt so dead, like watching a nature documentary where the animals can talk. All the life and funny faces were gone. Now I can't unsee how flat the whole thing feels.

Ever try watching the "Be Prepared" scene from the new one? Scar just stands there like a bored cat. In the cartoon, he's slinking around making these huge, sneaky faces. That's what sold me on the problem. The new tech can't show a smirk or a raised eyebrow, so all the personality they wrote just vanishes. It's like they forgot cartoons are allowed to be funny looking.

It's like they spent all the money on fur textures and forgot to buy the soul.
