Overheard my buddy defending the Total Recall remake

I was at a bar in Austin last Friday and my friend Dave started arguing that the 2012 Total Recall remake was actually okay. He said it was more faithful to the Philip K. Dick story than the original Schwarzenegger version. I about spit out my beer. That remake had zero personality, the acting was flat, and they made the whole Mars plot into some boring Earth tunnel thing. The original had that weird three-breasted lady and all the goofy action that made it fun. Why would anyone think we needed a serious version of that movie? Has anyone else had to argue with a friend who defends a clearly bad remake?

Man I've been there. My buddy Mike swore the RoboCop remake was better because it had "actual social commentary." I told him yeah and the original had a guy getting drenched in toxic waste and exploding. You gotta hit them with the facts. The remake cost $125 million and bombed at the box office. Plus nobody quotes the remake. Nobody says "Get your ass to Mars" from the 2012 version. Just tell Dave that if you're gonna remake Total Recall you better at least keep the three boobs.

To be fair, the remake's Mars actually looked like a real planet, just sayin.

Three boobs. That's the whole argument right there. I got into it with my brother-in-law about the same thing and he tried to say the remake had better fight choreography. I was like, yeah, and I still looked like a dumbass when I tried to do a backflip off my couch after watching the original.
