The RoboCop remake from 2014 actually made me appreciate the original more

I sat down to watch that PG-13 RoboCop reboot last weekend thinking 'how bad could it really be' and I turned it off after 45 minutes when the bad guy literally just talked about quarterly profits. The original from 1987 had this gritty, satirical bite that cut right through corporate greed and violence, you know? Has anyone else found a remake that actually made you love the original movie even more?

That line about "quarterly profits" made me shut it off too, the original had more bite in its pinky finger.

The whole thing felt like a corporate focus group made a movie about why corporations are actually fine. Its exactly what happens when you let marketing departments water down everything until its safe. Reminds me of how grocery stores now sell "organic" junk food and call it healthy. The original RoboCop understood that violence and satire go hand in hand when you're trying to make a point about how broken society is. That remake took all the sharp edges off and left us with a shiny commercial that was scared to offend anyone. Makes you wonder what movies will look like in ten years when every studio just follows the same safe formula?
