My neighbor's new security light is blinding my whole yard at night.
They installed a motion sensor floodlight on their garage two weeks ago. It points right at my bedroom window and my patio. Every time a cat walks by, my whole house lights up like noon. I tried talking to them, but they said it's for safety. I'm thinking about putting up a tall fence just to block it. Has anyone dealt with a light like this before? What did you do?

Check your local laws, some places have rules against light trespass. A fence might work but that's a lot of money lol.

That light trespass law point from @pat_schmidt60 is a good one, but how do you even check that? Do you call the city or is it posted somewhere online? Seems like a hidden rule most people wouldn't know about. A tall fence would fix it but you're right about the cost being crazy. Makes you wonder if just talking to the neighbor with the bright light is the first real step before anything else.

Talking to the neighbor is definitely the move. Laws about light are super specific and a pain to look up. Most people just have a security light and don't mean to be rude. Jumping straight to legal stuff can make a small problem huge. A friendly chat is way easier than dealing with city hall or building a giant fence.
