My clippers died mid-fade on a paying client Saturday

I was about 3 minutes into a skin fade on this regular dude Dave when my Wahl Magics just stopped. No sputtering, no warning, just dead. I had my old Oster 76s in my bag but they're heavy and loud and Dave looked nervous. I finished the whole cut with those things and honestly it came out pretty clean but my hand was cramping by the end. Had to explain to the next guy why I was using a clipper from the 80s. Anyone else ever have their main tool die on them in the middle of a haircut? How'd you handle it?

Felt that. I had a trimmer catch fire mid neckline once.

Wait what, actually caught fire while you were using it? That's terrifying, I can't imagine having flames near my neck like that. Did it just spark up suddenly or did you smell something weird first? I've had trimmers get hot before but nothing close to actual fire happening.

Read an article about cheap trimmers melting down like that. Scary stuff for something so close to your face.
