Shoutout to the old Shimano freehub that finally gave up
Honestly, I spent like four hours yesterday trying to figure out a weird clicking noise on a customer's road bike. Took the whole rear wheel apart twice, checked the cassette, the bearings, everything. Turns out it was just one tiny, worn-out pawl spring inside the freehub body that I missed the first time. Ngl, I felt pretty dumb for not spotting it sooner. Anyone else have a simple fix that took way too long to find?

Tell me about it, I chased a creak for a week that turned out to be a dry seatpost binder bolt. Felt like a total genius after all that. Those simple things can really make you question your skills.

Ugh, right? How many times have you greased a bolt and felt like you just solved a huge mystery? It's ALWAYS the cheap, easy fix that hides the longest.

Man, that's the worst kind of hunt. Did you at least have the right tools to get into that freehub body, or were you stuck improvising with whatever was around? Those tiny springs are a nightmare to handle. @zara_garcia is totally right about the cheap fixes hiding, makes you overthink everything. I bet you were so relieved when you finally saw that little bent piece of metal.
