Honestly, the "test of your poker face" thing is a bit much. It's just a TV show. People laugh at the wrong time sometimes, it's not a big deal. His mom probably just got startled, not actually mad. Tbh if a family judges you that hard for a small laugh, maybe they need to relax a bit.
