Overheard a Gen Z kid say 'boomers ruined the housing market' and I actually kind of agree now

I was at a coffee shop near downtown Denver and this 22 year old was telling his friend how his parents bought a house in 1998 for $120k and now that same place is worth $480k, and I did the math and realized I've been blaming my own generation for spending too much on avocado toast when the real problem was older folks sitting on properties they bought for pennies, so has anyone else had a moment where you actually switched sides on the generation blame game?

$120k to $480k... that's insane, I had no idea the gap was that big.

Hang on @sandra_anderson2, where are you seeing that kind of jump happen most? Is it just certain markets or industries pushing those numbers that high?

yeah fr, it's wild how fast things escalate in tech and real estate especially. you see it all the time with rent and housing prices outpacing wages in most cities, not just the big coastal ones. feels like the whole system is just out of step for regular people trying to keep up.
