Thought solo gaming was sad but my friend proved me wrong

For years I thought playing board games alone was just depressing. My buddy Mark kept inviting me to his solo sessions of Spirit Island and I always passed. Then last Tuesday I had a free evening and he set me up with a simplified version. After 2 hours of puzzle-solving and beating the game on my own terms, I totally get the appeal now. The quiet focus and lack of waiting around actually made it more strategic than group play. Has anyone else had a similar shift in thinking about solo board gaming?

Heard this same thing from my coworker Dave who used to make fun of his brother for playing Gloomhaven alone. Then one weekend his brother was sick and Dave picked up the game just to see what the fuss was about. He ended up staying up til 3am and bought his own copy the next day.

Classic case of becoming the very thing you swore to destroy. Hope Dave at least apologized to his brother between turns.
