An old welder in a Kansas City yard showed me how to tack a 3-inch pipe joint with just one hand.

He held the torch in his left, fed the rod with his teeth, and said 'sometimes the book forgets you're up on a beam with no table' before asking if any of you have a trick for tight spots like that.
