Just realized my old method for checking a 3/8-inch weld gap with a ruler was costing me time on every joint.

Now I keep a set of pre-cut feeler gauges from a tool truck in my pocket, and I can verify the gap in about two seconds flat, which has saved me a ton of frustration on this refinery turnaround project. Anyone else have a simple tool that made a big difference in their setup time?

But honestly, how much time are we really talking about saving here?

My brother-in-law the welder still uses a ruler, and I mean, it takes him longer to check the gap than to actually weld the thing.

Is saving a few seconds on a weld gap really that big of a deal?
