Picking the wrong book nearly killed my book club
I nominated a dense historical novel for my club last month and three people quit before page 50. We switched to a fast-paced thriller for the next meeting and had our best debate in 2 years. Has anyone else seen attendance suffer from a bad book pick?

Nah, a challenging book is what makes a club worth showing up for.

Man, you're braver than me. I spent three hours last week trying to get through the first chapter of "The Name of the Wind" and ended up falling asleep on the couch with drool on my cheek. Feels like I'd need a degree in medieval history just to keep up. But hey, maybe that's the whole point - you show up, feel dumb for a while, then someone explains it and you pretend you knew all along. I respect the hustle though, seriously.

Ha! @jesse_fisher would probably make us read it twice for fun.
