Just realized fixing books with my dad was our bonding time
When I was a kid, my dad and I would repair old novels from the thrift store. I thought we were just saving money, but it was how we talked and connected. Now that I bind books for a living, I see those sessions taught me patience and care. It hits different knowing those moments built our relationship. Bookbinding isn't just a trade, it's a way to grow close with family.

My dad and I used to fix up old bikes together. It was the same thing, just quiet time working side by side that meant a lot.

Maybe I'm missing something, but it was just fixing bikes. You learn how to turn a wrench, not some deep life lesson. It's nice, sure, but people make it sound like a big therapy session.

Man, that's it exactly. So many of the good things we learn come from just doing quiet work with someone.
