Three years ago I started using a bone folder from a craft store for my leather work. My mentor in Portland took one look and said 'You're going to ruin that spine.' Guess who was right?

Bet, how much pressure are you really putting on that spine though?

Three years ago I bought a cheap Tandy bone folder and it chipped on the first project. Real bone folders are way harder than that craft store stuff, they're made from actual cow bone. Those cheap plastic ones from Michaels or Joann will flex and crack under pressure from leather work. Your mentor was totally right, you need something with real heft and density for stitching and creasing. Spend the extra ten bucks on a proper tool and your spine will thank you later.

Yeah but Tandy's own stuff ain't what it used to be either. You gotta hunt down the real old school ones at estate sales or something.
