Overheard a cashier at Aldi talking about 'secret' clearance meat

I was in line last Tuesday and heard the cashier tell the guy in front of me that they mark down meat that's one day from the sell-by date by like 50% after 6 PM. He said they put it on a special cart near the back coolers. I asked about it later and another worker confirmed it's not advertised but totally consistent. I went back at 6:15 and grabbed a pack of chicken thighs for $3.50 that was originally $7. Has anyone else found hidden markdown spots at their grocery store?

I mean, that whole "discovering hidden clearance meat" thing sounds nice, but honestly I'd be kinda sketched out buying chicken that's literally one day from expiring. Even if it's marked down to $3.50, you're basically gambling on whether you'll cook it that night or end up with a science experiment in your fridge. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather pay full price for meat that's got a solid week left instead of playing beat the clock with poultry.

Man, I've been grocery shopping wrong my whole life apparently. My fridge is basically a museum of expired condiments and regret, so finding a $3.50 deal on chicken thighs sounds like a lottery win to me. Probably the only clearance meat I've ever found was a sad pack of ground beef that was practically begging to be put out of its misery. Gotta admire those cashiers who drop secret knowledge like it's nothing, though.

@wyatt_green31 you're onto something, the real secret is finding which employee talks the most on the clock.
