That $40 cast iron skillet I almost passed on turned out to be a lifesaver
I used to think cheap nonstick pans were the way to go for budget meals. You can grab one for $12 at the grocery store, and they seem fine at first. But after replacing three of them in two years, I got tired of the coatings peeling off into my food. A friend kept telling me to buy a cast iron skillet, and I finally caved for a Lodge one at $40. It took me a few tries to get the seasoning right, but now I use it for everything from eggs to steak. No more worrying about scratched surfaces or buying new pans every six months. Has anyone else made the switch and found it actually saves money in the long run?

Oh, actually most egg recipes work better with a well-seasoned cast iron.

Wait, @king.derek isn't that a bit heavy for eggs though? I feel like non-stick is just way easier for scrambled.
