My flight to Lisbon got canceled and I had to find a new plan fast.
I was in Frankfurt airport last spring when my budget airline flight was suddenly canceled. The next available flight was over $400, which blew my budget. I checked the train schedules and found a regional train to Paris for about $60, then a night bus from Paris to Lisbon for another $40. It took about 24 hours total, but I saved over $300. Has anyone else found good train or bus routes in Europe when flights fall through?

Less than a pizza in the airport" is wild, I can't even imagine that.

That train to Paris then night bus move is genius. I got stuck in Brussels once when a cheap flight to Barcelona got axed. Ended up on a series of slow regional trains down through France, took forever but cost less than a pizza in the airport. You start to see the whole trip as an adventure instead of a problem.
