Update: A visit to a seaside shop taught me a simple clamp trick

I was on a coastal drive and stopped at a small cabinet place right on the water. The guy there showed me how he uses rope and a few sticks as a third hand for odd shaped pieces. It sounds too basic, but it lets you hold weird angles without fancy gear. I tried it last week on a curved cabinet door and it saved me a huge headache. Really handy for one person jobs in a tight space.

Spot a trend where basic ingenuity beats fancy gear every time.

What kind of rope did he use? Just regular hardware store stuff?

Rope and sticks as a third hand? No way that actually holds weird angles. I'd be terrified it would fall apart.
